Alan is not only a fearless and tenacious advocate for accident victims, he is also widely regarded as a leading expert on the Occupiers’ Liability Act and the Municipal Act. Alan regularly serves as trial counsel to many personal injury practitioners and firms throughout the province and consults to lawyers in the insurance bar.

As a partner of the firm, Alan’s practices in all areas of personal injury litigation with a focus on Municipal Law and Occupiers’ Liability Law. He has appeared as counsel in all levels of court including the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada as well as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. He has several leading precedents to his credit in the areas of Motor Vehicle Law, Occupiers’ Liability and Municipal Law.
Alan frequently writes and lectures on a variety of topics including municipal liability, occupiers’ liability, civil litigation, and practice management and has provided frequent legal commentary for the media. He has also authored professional development materials and presented to the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, The Advocates’ Society, the Insurance Institute, Osgoode Hall Continuing Legal Education and The Law Society of Upper Canada.
A strong proponent of excellence through mentorship, Alan is a lecturer at the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Business (Diploma in Forensic Accounting and is a Law Society Practice Mentor. He is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Medico-Legal Society, The Advocates’ Society and the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers’ Association.
Prior to his legal career Alan played competitive soccer and is an accomplished musician, trained in classical cello and has played guitar for more than 45 years as both an amateur and professionally. After graduating from law school in 1994, Alan worked in the film and music industry while working in the personal injury field. He currently still teaches guitar and performs.
Alan has a long history of community involvement tracing back to his youth and has coached both hockey and soccer at various levels of competition. He has an unwavering commitment to access to justice for persons in the most vulnerable groups including youth, the poor, the LGBTQ community and in mental health awareness.
