Working closely with Alan Preyra, Joel has built a strong reputation as an expert in slip and fall injuries, both of whom are consulted regularly on cases involving the Occupiers’ Liability Act and the Municipal Act. Joel applies his exceptional understanding of case law, attention to detail, and ability to effectively argue his client’s case before a court to achieve results that other lawyers may not. He will also guide clients through the process to ease their uncertainty and better prepare them.
In addition to trip and falls and slip and falls, Joel represents clients in personal injury claims involving motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, dental malpractice, and dog bites. He has been involved in a number of cases against the City of Toronto and Go Transit where clients sustained serious injuries. Through persistent and smart litigation, he successfully obtained substantial settlements without having to go to court. Joel has appeared at the Ontario Court of Appeal and has provided written submissions to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Joel has written extensively on Municipal Liability, including co-authoring CPD program materials.
Outside the office he enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports when able, and supporting local charities.
